Why Use Our Free PDF Editor?

You landed here because you need to edit a PDF and you don’t want another subscription or a 500 MB install just to change a paragraph or add a signature. Fair enough.

Our PDF Editor runs in the browser. Upload the file, click around the toolbar, download when you’re done. You can tweak text where the PDF allows it, drop in highlights and shapes, paste an image, white out something sensitive, or add a signature—whatever the job actually needs.

We don’t ask for an email first. We don’t stamp “edited with us” on your pages. Your file goes to our server over HTTPS so the heavy lifting can happen; when you hit download, we’re not holding onto a copy for later. If that sounds like the level of friction you wanted, open the editor and try it on a non-critical PDF first—you’ll see how it feels in under a minute.

Quick heads-up: scanned pages are basically pictures. You can still mark them up, but if you need real text editing underneath, run OCR PDF first. Locked files? Unlock PDF, then come back here.

Phones work; a laptop is nicer for fiddly layout. Either way, the front door is the same: mypocketpdf.com/pdf-editor.

How It Works Under the Hood

What actually happens when you edit a PDF here

You’re not tricking the file into changing in secret—your PDF travels over HTTPS to our backend, we hand you an editor in the page, then we bake your changes back into a new PDF for download. That’s why things like real text tweaks and heavier layouts are possible without installing Acrobat. When you’re finished, grab the download; we’re not archiving your document for “later.”

If you’re trying to rank this mentally: edit pdf and pdf editor are the same errand in different words. The tool lives at /pdf-editor—bookmark it if you keep coming back.

How to Use PDF Editor in 3 Simple Steps

1. Upload Your PDF

Open the PDF Editor and add your file by dragging it in or clicking to choose. Your PDF is sent to our secure server for editing; we do not store your document after you download the result. Editing starts once the file is loaded.

If your PDF is password-protected or has editing restrictions, you must unlock it first. Use our Unlock PDF tool, then open the unlocked file here to edit. For scanned PDFs (image-only), you can still add annotations and images on top; to edit the actual text, run OCR PDF first to make it searchable and editable.

2. Edit with the Full Toolset

Click Edit PDF to open the full toolbar. You can edit existing text, add new text boxes, highlight in multiple colors, draw with the pencil, insert shapes (arrows, rectangles, circles, lines), add images, create links, apply whiteout for redaction, add checkmarks and crosses, and insert your signature. Use the thumbnail sidebar to jump between pages; use Undo/Redo and Find & Replace as needed.

When you need to sign the document, you can add a signature in the editor or use our Sign PDF tool. To lock all edits and annotations so they cannot be moved, use Flatten PDF after editing.

3. Download Your Edited PDF

Click Download PDF to save your edited document. All changes are applied permanently—no watermarks or branding from us. We do not store your file after you download. Always download before closing the tab if you have unsaved edits.

To add a password before sharing, use our Protect PDF tool. To reduce file size, use Compress PDF. To convert the content to an editable Word file, use PDF to Word.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Text editing isn't working

Click the "Edit PDF" button to activate editing mode. Some PDFs have text as images (scanned documents) and cannot be edited directly—use our OCR PDF tool first to make them editable.

My edits disappeared

Edits are saved in browser memory. If you refresh the page before downloading, they will be lost. Always download your edited PDF before closing the browser tab.

The PDF looks different after editing

We preserve the original layout and fonts. If fonts look different, the original PDF may have used custom fonts not available in browsers. We substitute with similar standard fonts.

Can't edit a specific PDF

Password-protected or restricted PDFs must be unlocked first. Use our Unlock PDF tool, then edit the unlocked file.

Annotations are not showing up

Ensure you're in editing mode (click "Edit PDF"). Also check that you're on the correct page—use the thumbnail sidebar to navigate.

File is too large / browser crashes

Very large PDFs (500+ pages or 100+ MB) may strain browser memory on older devices. Try editing on a desktop or use our Split PDF tool to work on smaller sections.

Downloaded PDF doesn't have my changes

Click "Download PDF" after editing (in the editor view). The initial "Download" button gives you the original file, not your edited version.
