How to Deskew a Scanned PDF Online Free

You scanned the lease on the kitchen table. The text leans like it had a long lunch. Not upside down—just a few degrees off, enough that every page looks amateur and OCR starts guessing wrong letters.

If you deskew a fully sideways page, you are fighting the wrong battle.

1. Open Deskew PDF.
2. Upload the skewed scan.
3. Pick Automatic to estimate skew per page, or Manual if you want the grid and slider.
4. Check the preview against the alignment grid. Nudge with fine steps (±0.1°, ±0.5°, ±1°) on stubborn pages—tables and stamps sometimes confuse auto-detect.

Automatic is the right default for a long receipt stack. Let it estimate, skim a few previews, fix the one page that went weird.

Manual when auto keeps misreading a page with a big stamp, a photo, or a sparse form. Use the grid. Small steps. Stop when the text baseline looks level—do not chase perfection for twenty minutes on one grocery receipt.

Deskew before you stamp numbers and signatures onto a tilted frame. Geometry first. Decoration last.

Using invert or grayscale to “fix” skew. Color tools do not straighten lines. Grayscale / Invert are separate jobs (gray scale, invert).

Deskewing a digital Word export that was never skewed. You will not hurt much, but you also will not help. Save the step.

OCR before deskew. You can, but you are making OCR work harder. Flip the order when you still can.

Numbering before deskew. Numbers sit square while text leans. Looks broken.

Big stamps, dark photos, and sparse forms with almost no text lines can confuse automatic detection. Switch that page to manual, align to the grid, and move on. One stubborn page is not a reason to deskew the whole stack by hand.

Lined notebook paper sometimes “wins” over the handwriting for detection. If the tool levels the ruled lines but your writing still looks odd, that is physics—your hand was not parallel to the ruling. Re-scan flatter when it matters; deskew cannot invent a perfect photo.

Digital PDFs exported from Word are usually already straight. Running deskew on them wastes time. Save deskew for scans, phone captures, and feeder jobs that visibly lean.
